Lysaght’s Lagoon

This large lagoon is located just off Normanby Road to the north of Scunthorpe and was once part of the John Lysaght’s steelworks which opened in 1912. The lagoon was much smaller back then and was bright green in colour from pollutants off the steelmaking process. When the steelworks closed in the early 1980s a massive multi-million pound reclamation programme got underway to removed the contaminated land and bring it back to use as an industrial estate, much of the work has been done though reclamation work still continues to this day.
The lagoon area was drained and the contaminated soil removed, it was then enlarged and landscaped with feed pipes added to fill the lagoon from the nearby land. The are a number of benches around the lagoon to sit on to watch the wildlife, you can also see the nearby Bagmoor windfarm. This was one of the last areas to be tackled as part of the reclamation process and once the trees have matured it will become a pleasurable area to visit.
My only complaint is the amount of dog muck aroung the pathway which is left by irresponsible dog owners and there is only one dog waste bin located at the southern entrance to the site.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Early Morning Town Centre

We’re all use to seeing the town centre shopping areas during the day with the hustle & bustle as shoppers go about their business but what does it look like in the early hour of the morning when very little is happening. I went out just after 5am on 8th December 2012 to see the town centre in the dead of night and to take a few pictures and to see what happens when you take away those key elements that make a scene so vibrant.

All taken with ISO100, F9 and a 4 second shutter speed.
